“for he is the living God, enduring forever; his kingdom shall never be destroyed, and his dominion shall be to the end. He delivers and rescues; he works signs and wonders in heaven and on earth” Daniel 6:26-27.
We can scarcely imagine a President, prime minister, or king calling a major press conference to declare the sovereignty of Almighty God, but a Mede ruler named Darius did exactly that. He declared that “he is the living God, enduring forever.” When confronted with the miraculous deliverance of Daniel from the lion’s den, it was abundantly clear to Darius that the true God is living and active in human events. He wisely and humbly acknowledged that the living God’s kingdom and dominion vastly superseded his - an amazing acknowledgment in itself for a governmental ruler to admit.
No matter from whose lips such declarations are made, the statements are absolutely true. The God whom we know and serve is indeed the living God, without beginning or end. The Bible contains the record of His dealings with humanity, and His deeds are vast and varied. Above all, He is supreme head of government and rule, and this rule and reign shall ultimately prevail.
With the world in increasing chaos, we need to be reminded of these important facts. We are in the midst of a contentious election season, and conflict in Europe and the Middle East continues to escalate. As Jesus aptly described the reaction of many to last-day events, “people fainting with fear and with foreboding of what is coming on the world” Luke 21:26. Darius’ declaration in Daniel 6 does much to alleviate these fearful reactions.
It would be surprising if a press conference was called in the near future to declare as Darius did but, whether acknowledged or not, it is absolutely true that our Father’s government is the only true and lasting government, and it will prevail and triumph when the madness of human government is ended. It is wise for us to cast our vote and pledge our allegiance to this government alone. We do so as we join with Jesus in His admonition to “seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness” Matthew 6:33.
